What is the 48 Hour Vidjam Filmmaking Weekend?
Vidjam is a 48-hour filmmaking competition based out of Central Pennsylvania. Filmmakers setup teams and then have 48 hours to make a film based off of a theme chosen by Vidjam staff before the event, then that film is screened in front of a real audience in a real movie theatre!
Rules, Judging Criteria, and Team Registration will be available in April 2018.
The weekend begins on June 1st at 7pm until June 3rd at 7pm, with the screening at Midtown Cinema — date to be announced!
What is the Vidjam Filmmaking Weekend?
Vidjam is inspired by “game jams“, which are “a gathering of game developers for the purpose of planning, designing, and creating one or more games within a short span of time, usually ranging between 24 and 72 hours” (wikipedia.org). We wanted to bring that collaborative experience to a new medium: filmmaking.
At Vidjam, teams take one suggestion (one theme, one word, one sentence, etc.), chosen at the beginning of the Vidjam event, and are then tasked with writing, filming, and editing their own video to be screened in front of an audience!
An example of a Vidjam Filmmaking Weekend schedule is located below:
Friday Evening: All teams who have registered for the competition show up, the rules and guidelines are established and explained, and a topic/theme/inspiration is chosen for the Vidjam.
Friday Evening – Sunday: The teams have this time to plan, write, film, and edit their projects for the deadline on Sunday evening.
Sunday Evening: All team submissions are dropped off or uploaded to Vidjam.org.
The Following Week: The screening will take place one week after the Vidjam to allow for Vidjam staff to review all submissions. Our screenings will be attended by guest judges, as well. After the screening the guest judges will vote for a “Judge’s Choice” winner, while the audience will be polled for the “Audience Favorite”!
The submissions will then be uploaded and posted the Vidjam.org website! Last years submissions are available here.
